Three Ways: Autumn/Winter 2013 – Coats

It’s about that time of year when you decide that sandals and summer dresses just aren’t going to cut it anymore and you need to go shopping for the essential winter coat. But with a forest of leather, cotton and tweed ahead where could you possibly begin?

Well to start with lets see what’s trending on the A/W 2013 catwalks. Well there was a lot of PINK, but I’ve shown you what you can buy to follow this particular trend – (https://amelielockhart.wordpress.com/2013/09/09/three-ways-autumn-2013-trend-pink/) so now let me show you what else is out there for the fashion conscious in need of some new outerwear. AND as always I will be offering a budget, treat and extravagant choice so you can go shopping without feeling guilty.

1. Over-Sized – Over-sized is one of the biggest trends this A/W and as a result the shops are full of billowing fabric and huge silhouettes. Remember though, when wearing over-sized coats always contrast with tightly fitting trousers to avoid looking like a bag of rags.

Extravagance – £199.00, Mint Velvet. Isn’t she lovely. The neutral grey colour means it will match a wide variety of outfits, if you really want to stand out though I would suggest adding some bright purple skinny jeans.

Treat – £79.99, Zara. The belt on this over-sized piece will allow you to nip the fabric in around your waist, which will allow you to still show off your figure from underneath.

Budget – £60.00, Monki. Okay, it’s not the bargain of the century but it is absolutely gorgeous. The round neckline is also bang on trend having featured heavily on many of the catwalks this season.

2. Bold Pattern – Come on now, be brave. Just remember to pair your gaudy jacket with more subtle clothing underneath to avoid an over-powering look.

Extravagance – £195.00, French Connection. Want, want, want! To avoid the Pat Butcher look, pair this little beauty with a pair of light grey cigarette-style trousers and a white blouse rather than those large gold earrings.

Treat – £75.00, BHS. The leather lining peaking through really makes this outfit and although the pattern is busy it’s not an over-powering colour so it will still be suitable for work and match well with most other clothes and colours.

Budget – £40.00, Asos. No you didn’t read it wrong, this coat really is only £40.00, but it’s on sale (down from £80.00), which means you’ll have to be quick.

3. Biker Jackets – Did the biker look every really go out of fashion? These biker jackets may not keep you very warm but paired with black skinny jeans and knee high black boots you’ll create the sexy look without having to step near a bike (helmet hair avoided!)

Extravagance – £398.00, AllSaints. This jacket is so gorgeous I almost want to skip the mortgage payment to finance it.

Treat – £180.00, Y.A.S. (Asos). Apparently  biker jackets don’t have to be black. This white jacket, although a coffee-related accident is sure to happen, is a great addition to any outfit. Wear it casual with light jeans or rock out in black leather treggings.

Budget – £69.99, Zara. The traditional shape and style of this jacket means that it will last many years without going out of fashion. But at this price it doesn’t really need to!

4. Brightly Coloured – I love buying a coat that screams in Winter’s face. The brighter, the better in my opinion. So match your coat with your highlighter pen and laugh in the cold weather’s face.

Extravagance – £440.00, FarFetch. The colour co-ordinated zips on this coat just scream ‘fashionista’. Also the gorgeous cobalt colour will go with everything (except brown), which means you can really get your money’s worth and at over £400 that will definitely be your main concern.

Dinou-at-Farfetch-Glamour-2sept13_b_592x888

Treat – £200.00, French Connection. Brunettes and blondes unite, red is the universal colour suitable for you both. This jacket will not only beat your winter blues but it also fills two main trend requirements of A/W 2013, over-sized and brightly coloured.

Budget – £120.00, Asos. So the jacket above is gorgeous but it may still be out of your price range, do not worry penny-pinchers as Asos have come to your rescue and for pretty much half the price, they have an almost identical coat. But it’s Limited Edition so don’t hesitate as you may miss out.

5. Fur – (fake, obviously) As part of a glam evening outfit or to liven up your basic jeans, a fur coat is a wardrobe necessity!

Extravagance – £168.00, Anthropologie. If I bought this jacket, I would hoot and want everyone to call me Hedwig, but that’s just me. You could buy the jacket and act perfectly normal, whilst also looking ultra-glam.

Cover-Up-17-Glamour-27Aug13-PR_b_592x888

Treat – £89.00, Topshop. Fur & leather, what more could you want from a jacket? It looks super warm too so buy this little lovely and keep toasty and fashionable this Autumn.

Cover-Up-27-Glamour-27Aug13-PR_b_592x888

Budget – £40.00, Vero Moda (Asos). There’s nothing warmer than a duffle coat, right? Wrong, there’s nothing warmer than a fur duffle coat, making this the perfect coat for our less than predictable British weather. It’s on sale down from £80.00 at the moment so be quick and don’t miss out.
